The current front door was not an original feature of the chapel. It was punched through for ease of access when the building was used as a store The lack of a proper lintel has caused extensive cracking in the front gable of the building. The planners were keen that this opening be maintained. So in our plan it will become a window in the kids playroom/study with obscure glazing. So first job was to put in a new lintel..... first time we really think that we might lose this game of Jenga............. Where to put the openings for the French doors from the dining area to the lounge.... The start of the kitchen window. Much discussion on where to put it avoiding the tie bars holding the building together but still allowing the hobbits in the family o look out. Our Jenga™tower we fondly call our home to be, has caused us some issues. Our original plan was that there would be enough bricks from new openings and extensions for any fiddly edge works! But no, most have just dissolved to dust on falling out so we needed more bricks and ours are big multi-coloured bricks so much fun was had finding a match........well when I said fun..... The kitchen door and en-suite window are made by extending the opening from an original bricked in window. As before the first job was removing the new well-cemented bricks and seeing how many of the old lime-mortared bricks stayed in place............ |
