A busy day for everyone on a very hot day. Work continues inside putting in the first floor. On the extension a compromise is reached where the height of the extension is reduced close to that of the plan and the master bedroom windows are reduced a bit in size.

A day of cleaning up the site. managed to rescue lots of original teeny weeny paving bricks that we will use for part of our paving near the end. A normal brick is shown next to them for scale.
Very excited to see the extension emerging and as promised using the pre-manufactured panels it went up very fast indeed. Unfortunately it kept going up to a greater height than planned covering the windows from the master bedroom.....what to do? Meanwhile panels continue to be fixed inside :-) but none of the openings match so resign ourselves to this being a very slow process indeed. Exciting day for us, the supporting frame for the house is finally starting to be fitted. It was a bit of a slow start as fitter hadn't ben briefed on how the frame was to be fixed to the existing chapel but h quickly sorted out a system. Unfortunately none of the openings in the frame matched with the existing openings in the chapel. We were assured that this would be sorted in time........ what is going on? It was meant to be an exciting day. We were told it would all start at 8.30 .... Well the pictures tell the story. Lets hope there is some progress tomorrow 😰🤔 A big day today, the frame to support the chapel and provide all our walls and ceilings has arrived. We got into a bit of a pickle with removing some of the heavier items but Billinghay Forge came to our rescue! If only we had instructions....... Some of it gets put in place, some of it just tries to shelter from the rain which has never stopped today. What happened to Costa del Billinghay? The big clean-up: cleaned up the slab ready firstly for the frame people but ultimately, long awaited, now almost imminently for the big shed for Jonam, whoop whoop. Picked up all debris around the chapel. Also made new shutters for the openings so that they can be removed after the frame structure goes in. Don't they look smart? Cleaning of the walls revealed the original wall covering in the chapel: Plaster finished and cut to look like dressed stone! So the big question, do we go the full hog in appreciation of the original and decorate throughout in mock-stone too - just like those fabulous fireplaces in the 70s? The extension gets the concrete it has been waiting for and the block-work for the frame is complete. We now have a seamless floor through the house to the extension. It is very hard to believe that this used to be two steep steps up from the inside of the chapel. |
