Roof beams finally arrive and there is some serious action on site as the roof structure starts to appear. Ever have that gut-wrenching stomach falling feeling?
Well we did when not just a For Sale notice board appeared on site but a Sold board! Was it all over? Had it been sold beneath us? No just some local wags having a little jape. Our hearts beat again... A day of just clearing up the slab and rescuing the wood from the old roof we can use. Much excitement as a crane arrives on site to lift the beams and large frame sections up to the first floor to make the roof section. Much sucking of teeth from crane driver about avoiding the overhead cable which adjoins the chapel but all goes well. We even become a bit of a local attraction particularly for the kids on way home from school :-) A busy Autumn day. We started off getting some advice on kitchen design and then to site. Now the original roof beams have been removed we could have a proper look around on the first floor for the first time. We could see the views from our windows. In the air block at the rear of the chapel there seemed to be rolled up hessian inside..... could it be a treasure map? Finally the time has come to remove the roof! Will the many metres of reinforcement in the walls do their job, will the chapel remain standing long enough to put the new frame in? ....... We watch... |
